"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."

Going, going, gone!

Where I got the title quote

And here is what happens when pressure is applied by the public.

The worst thing about this article is that it has all resources linked and referenced.

Doom...

I am sure this is no surprise but i think we are in trouble. From the following article here:

Gasoline prices were up 10.9 percent, the biggest surge since a 12.8 percent rise last October. Analysts caution that motorists should be braced for another large increase in gasoline costs in August, reflecting the fact that gasoline prices have continued to rise in recent weeks as oil prices have surged above $66 per barrel.

The government reported Monday that the average nationwide price for gasoline rose to $2.55 per gallon in its latest survey, up 18 cents per gallon in just one week.

Analysts, however, believe that this year's oil shock will not push the country into a recession like the oil shocks of the 1970s and 1980s did because of different circumstances this time around. They contend that this year's oil shock is coming at a time of low inflation pressures outside of energy, which means that the Federal Reserve will not feel the need to aggressively raise interest rates to fight widespread inflation.

I had a conversation with a guy that said GM proposed to have a hydrogen car by 2010.  Thats only 5 years away! And then I read this article.

Europe has been paying 3.50-4 bones a gallon for some time now.  But we have been spoiled.

A cousin of mine has been studying alternative energy methods.  Smart kid.  He plans on consulting on the subject once he finishes college.  He is a tree hugger, but I dont mind.  Not all tree huggers are bad, and many will be needed when the shit hits the fan.  We had spoken about wind power and solar power.  Some day it would be cool to own a house powered from sources completely independent of the man.  Go ahead, up heating oil prices. See if I care.  Dependency sucks.

The energy bill proposed by Georgie is a start but it doesnt really go into any firm plan on removing our dependence on Middle Eastern oil. Many problems could be averted if we could have a functioning hydrogen-powered automobile.  Our world would be way different if solar and wind were more more practical. Instead we have auto manufacturers making the H3 and other beefy autos that the elite can not only buy, but insure and gas up.  Guess you cant blame them. If  I had a buttload of money I would spend it on dumb crap too.

There was a time I would never have been caught dead on a scooter, but you know, I dont think it would be all that bad. beep beep  You have no idea how many cars I pass in the morning or afternoon where there is a single person in a car going to work.  I dont go very far, 10 miles, maybe, one way. I dont think it necessary to have a big clunky auto and i drive a Saturn!  What if everyone rode scooters?  Or something just as efficient?  hmmm....I think the world might be more fun.  I think I am gonna start a Motor Scooter Gang.  Hells Cream Puffs or something like that would be the name.  The initiation would be terrifying, you can count on that.

Radio Personalities Talk Smoking Ban

Every now and again I tune the dial into 1055. I sometimes refer to it as the hippie channel. The one big reason I like it is its lack of repeating songs throughout a given day.

Most of us are aware of the smoking ban placed on taverns, bowling alleys, restuarants and other private establishments within the city of Madison's borders. It has been in effect since early July.

Many of the owners, wait staff and employees are complaining because of a drop in business, and they attribute this drop to the no-smoking ordinance.

Well the last two days I tuned in to the morning show of 1055, triple m. MMM, not yummy. Johnathan & Kitty have been voicing their opinion on the whole ordeal and I can say that I find it somewhat surprising given their career choice.

They both take part in taking jabs at smokers and the whole situation. They have expressed sympathy for the business owners, but their concern seems to fizzle out as they continue their banter. They are convinced that smokers are the root of the problem. They are not going to the bars and keeping the businesses afloat. They even state quote statistics saying many smokers dont even frequent those types of establishments. That they tend to stay home or do other things than go to bars and light up. There have been other comments that are somewhat snide in nature, I dont recall them.

First let me say this. They are entitled to their opinion. Second, so am I. Lastly, I find it hard to belive that givent the fact that they are in radio, they have what i consider liberal views on things, that they can tolerate an ordinance that was passed without public vote and forced, yes forced, upon private establishments that dictate what they can and cannot do. They even brought up a counter to this saying that they should just allow drug use in bars. Its a private establishment, why not? I believe they used the drug analogy or something just as stupid. The only difference is that smoking tobacco is not illegal.

You really want to drop the bomb on this whole smoking thing? You cardiac doctors concerned with sick people, Mayor Dave, this is what you do. Go after the tobacco farmer! Start putting the squash down on these guys. They're the root of the evil. Make it illegal for them to grow the stuff and boom, no more problem, right?

I think the FCC should put a limit on how far Kitty and Johnathan's show can be transmitted. How about a 1 mile radius?
